This is epic. Thanks for compiling this! I hadn’t heard of the Celia Pym exhibition- how cool. I love that you’ve included UK options.
Also in the UK, Finisterre offer group classes in their stores and Andrea Cheong does Mindful Monday repair classes. Lots of great options and I’m so happy to see more people talking about it.
I haven’t done a round up of classes on my newsletter since last year so this is the nudge for me to start again. Thank you!
Thank you!! Ooh I will definitely add Finisterre & Andrea Cheong to the list. I come across so many cool London / UK based meetups & mending, upcycling brands, makes me wish I could spend more time there hahah! And yesss would love to follow your roundups too, just subscribed :)
What a great roundup! One more to add to your professionals list is mendmother.com, they also take mail in darns. My favorite darning resource for learning lately have been Skye’s videos on YouTube! I watched her darn a cuff the other day and I’ve always been confused about how people do that
This is so resourceful! I honestly didn’t even know it was called Swiss darning, I just called it re-knitting lol. I wish there were classes in Cleveland! I’ve followed some online tutorials, with various results. It’s nice to connect in person though.
Thank you! Same for me, I love the chance to meet up & work on creative projects in person. I’ll keep an eye out for Cleveland classes, let me know if you come across any & I’ll add here !!
I used Alterknit’s mail in service to repair holes in two vintage wool sweaters last year. Their repair work was pricier than I had envisioned ($200+ for repairing ~4 small holes, and I think this included the shipping back to DC) but the seamstress personally called me to discuss price and repair method which was a personal touch I appreciated.
I’m doing exactly this for my garden sweater, which got attacked by moths! (We did, at last, solve the moth problem.)
Battling a moth infestation is the worst !! Would love to see the sweater once you’re done !
We thought we’d never get rid of those moths! Pheromone traps finally did them in, but it didn’t happen quickly.
I was going to send WIP photos, but apparently I don’t know the secret to including a photo in the reply box.
This is such an incredible resource Anne! So happy to be included in amongst so many great repair artists - thank you :)
@dizzydarns is a great resource in LA too! I have taken her course through Usal Project that is offered almost once a month https://www.instagram.com/dizzydarns/?hl=en
Oh amazing !!! Thank you for the rec, I will add them into the list :)
What an amazing guide!!👏🫶
Thanks Tina !!
