The 10 holiday sweaters I'm wearing this season
Spoiler alert: it's one old sweater, styled 10 ways
If you’re in NYC the weekend of Dec 14th & 15th and looking to do some holiday shopping, Next Season will be at FAD Market Holiday Pop-up in Cobble Hill (190 Court Street, 11-6pm) alongside other local small businesses & makers !
My most worn sweater of all time is a slim black merino wool turtleneck from Uniqlo. I wear it almost weekly in the winter- and after tucking it away for the summer months, come fall, I’m always glad to pull it out & wear it again.
A black turtleneck is the perfect base for your holiday party fits, no new sweaters required. I put together 10 (mostly easy) styling ideas, hopefully inspiring you to dig out the clothes you already own & give them a new spin. And if your current wardrobe is lacking in holiday cheer, vintage stores are the perfect place to find a new-to-you sparkly accessory.
10 Ways to Style Your Black Turtleneck for the Holidays
In order of increasing difficulty…
Accessorize x 5
The easiest ways to dress up a black turtleneck include: big earrings, fun belts, scarves, sparkly shoes, scrunchies (or any other hair accessory like bows, clips etc.). The glitter belt was procured at a vintage store in Savannah- I have a love/hate relationship with belts, and vintage stores are the best place to find unique ones.
Jeans work well for an in-office holiday party or chill get-togethers with friends - but can be swapped out for black pants / trousers if you want to dress things up just a little bit more.

Statement piece x 3
If you’re feeling dressier (or if your party calls for a more formal look), a black turtleneck is always a good base for any sequin / sparkly pieces. I found these blue sequin Polo Ralph Lauren pants at my local goodwill for $15- they were in perfect condition other than missing the zipper (so weird??), and a perfect fit. I sewed a new zipper in by hand.

Alternatively, these red track pants are well suited for the holidays- the perfect color & super comfy. I’d pair them with the aforementioned sparkly earrings (at the least) to keep things festive. All out fit x 2
Now’s your chance to wear that velvet, leopard-print suit you’ve kept in the back of your closet (just me??), or those sheer black pants. This Dries Van Noten suit is one of my all-time greatest eBay gets.. and the pants are so comfortable they’re seriously like wearing pajamas.

I’m obsessed with these sheer pants (vintage), but naturally they’re hard to wear. I’m not a big dress / tights wearer, but combining these pants with a long-line coat adds a bit of coverage and creates a similar effect. If you are a tights girl, be sure to check out patron saint of styling Leandra Medine’s recent newsletter about styling tights for the holidays- soo many creative ideas & inspo here:
Hope you all enjoy your holiday festivities, and feel inspired to wear something old anew. I’m spending the next two weeks knee-deep in knitting ahead of the FAD Market Holiday Pop-up, and am looking forward to sharing more projects / behind-the-scenes and 2025 plans with you soon!
