Dear Friends,
I hope this email finds you well! I wanted to share some news about a new project I'm working on – a circular knitting initiative that I’m super excited about.
To start, some of you might be wondering what ‘circular’ means in this context
The Ellen MacArthur Foundation, a leading non-profit championing circularity defines the circular economy as
…a system where materials never become waste and nature is regenerated. In a circular economy, products and materials are kept in circulation through processes like maintenance, reuse, refurbishment, remanufacture, recycling, and composting. The circular economy tackles climate change and other global challenges, like biodiversity loss, waste, and pollution, by decoupling economic activity from the consumption of finite resources.
or to put it really simply:
So what does my ‘circular knitting’ project entail?
As a lifelong fashion enthusiast, I'm intrigued by the barriers to establishing a circular economy for fashion. And as an avid knitter, I thought - why not take a hands-on approach to investigating circularity? Can I knit a sweater using waste?
For the next three weeks, I'll be taking you on a journey through the creation of a 'v0' sweater made from waste & scrap yarn. I’ll explore three main areas:
Design
Materials
Manufacturing
Along the way, I plan to connect with people, brands, and organizations already championing circular fashion. By immersing myself in this project, I hope to gain insight into how we can make 'circular' fashion more accessible and widespread.
I'm excited to share this process with all of you, and would love any thoughts/suggestions/questions/connections you might have - don’t hesitate to reach out!
Best,
Anne
PS - let me know if you don’t want to receive these emails, no hard feelings!
